Chinese Shar Peis - Rescues - Training TipsShar-Peis tend to dominate and show their independence in everything. Being smart dogs, they are rather easy to train. However, training mustn't be a routine for them. They are more responsive to firm and fair training that brings excitement and joy to both the dog and the owner. To be kept in mind, every dog is given definite temperament traits by nature. These traits may be modified, but cannot be completely changed or removed. Trying to do so may result in an aggressive or nervous Shar-Pei.Chinese Shar Peis - Rescues - Miniature TypeThe Miniature Shar-Pei should stand 17 inches at the withers. A bigger size is a disqualification. This size comes from a recessive gene in the DNA. Breeders are working on making the recessive gene dominate in this type in order to insure the desirable small size in Shar-Peis. However, some breeders who aim at getting the Miniature type, fail to make a difference between the Miniature type and a small Chinese Shar-Pei inflicted with some disease such as kidney disorder or heart disease.Two types of coat are officially accepted in the Miniature Shar-Pei: "horse coat" and "brush coat," both types being very short. "Bear coat" is over 1 inch long and is considered a fault. Breeding of the Miniature Shar-Pei is connected with a number of difficulties. Such difficulties are currently undergoing research. Only a careful selective process can minimize the cases of lethal outcome in Shar-Peis and bring about a stable and sound breed standard.
