As the quality of the dogs brought from Hong-Kong and Taiwan left much to be desired, breeders worked on improving it and the standard of the breed was amended. The breed may experience the following diseases and conditions: eye malformations, bacterial ear infections, skin fold pyoderma, etc

The Hong-Kong Kennel Club recognized the breed in 1966. Specialists in many western countries appreciated the Chinese breed. In 1982, the Kennel Club of London recognized the dog of this very breed. The AKC came up with an official recognition in 1991. If you are going to buy puppies you should visit several kennels, or you may have one kennel in mind.
